What is this in lower unit of Mercury 90hp

HI Everyone,
1995 Mercury 90hp, 3 cylinder. I"m replacing the pinion gear and forward gear in the lower unit and some parts in there may be missing. In looking at the parts diagram, what is part # 9.. I see that #8 is the ball bearings, but I don't know what it is that they go into (part#9)

Also, #28.. what does this "insert" go into?

Part #9 and the balls are a detent assembly.----Likely not visible and best left alone.

I found 2 of the 3 ball bearings though.. so I figured that I had to replace that.. maybe the ball bearings came from something else? I also can't find that spring.. and part #7 was found behind the forward gear. I just want to put it back together right. I found he spring on ebay... can't find this detent assembly thing

the spring and balls should be in the prop shaft under the shift dog

Do you know of any videos that illustrate this? I can't find anything.. the shift dog was torn up too and I'm replacing that as well

If the shift dog broke it would explain why you found these pieces loose in there.
