Hi,
I just got a 71 Fiberform and I'm new to boating. Could someone help me understand what this is on the bottom of the boat and its purpose. Thanks..

It's a pitot tube for the speedometer.

Thanks...it seems to move up and down. Does it get turned off?

Welcome to iboats!

It should only pivot with some effort-this is only meant to protect it in case it hits something in the water. Therefore, you may need a replacement.

BTW, the tube to the speedometer needs to be connected to the barbed fitting.

Is that black tube connected to anything? If not, follow NYBo's instructions. If it is (and it looks to me from the picture) that it's connected to the black thing below it (transducer maybe?). If that's the case, then you'd need to get yourself a tube to run from the speedo to the pitot. In my opinion, it isn't worth the hassle. Get a GPS. You'll find that the speedo is probably not very accurate.

How many bilge drains does your boat have? I see two in the picture. Just curious.
