What is this filter on the ignition power wire?

I’m trying to chase down an electronic noise issue and I noticed this in the diagram and my wire has a butt-connector no filter. What is the filter? An inline cap? Resistor?

It's location in front of the coil would lead me to believe it's a diode

It’s often referenced as a noise filter.

There are times when it falls, the engine may not start/run but that condition is intermittent.

You’re able to buy a new harness from Merc using your serial number to help ensure the correct part number for about $87.00.

Example is item number 17,

Okay thanks, would a general purpose 50v 3a diode work?
Don't know if it would work have you tested the one in there? should ohm one way and not the other?

what is the noise issue you are trying to solve ?

Years ago, autos would have a Condenser (capacitor) on the ign wire to help control the RF noise that came from the ign system. That device looks to be in the right place, however, it is not a cap, or at least it doesn't look like a cap.

Maybe it is a resistor to lower voltage?

For me it would be a ferrite coil to reduce ignition noise in the radio.

And if it was mine I would forget all about it, it's not needed
