Re: What is this compartment on my 98 bayliner trophy???

also i do get water in the engine bilge after use. water does pour out. Are you saying this should be dry after removing the drain plug?

Engine compartment should stay dry when the boat is in the water.( unless something is spilled on the deck and runs down there)

Rain can collect there so the plug should be left out when not in the water ( but thats up to you )

If you are getting water in the engine compartment while on the water then your boat might be sinking:eek:(just thinking out loud)

With the exception of rainwater and water splashed onboard during use, your bilge (bilge area, hull, anything under the deck) should be dry. The water that's coming into the step well is being pushed there while the boat is in motion and while being trailered. If you store the boat in a nose down position, the water will seek the lowest point. If there's water in the rear of the boat, it will move to the front since it is piped/channeled together.

I think you'll find that if you store the boat with the nose up, remove the drain plug and let it drain, then you will have removed the majority (if not all) the water from the step well area.

On to the bigger problem...you have water coming in from somewhere when you're using the boat. I don't remember if you have an I/O or an O/B. If it's an I/O, check the bellows and all thru hull fittings/seals around the outdrive. If it's an O/B, check the areas previously mentioned. Do you run the livewell pump every time you go out (i.e. are you fishing?). If so, that could be your source. It was in my Trophy. It was just a split hose.

Bottom line is, you have to put a dry boat on the water and look at the interior /bilge/hull areas with a flashlight to see where the water is coming in. If you can't do this, get someone who can. You and your loved ones lives depend on this.

the front of the boat is not higher then the back. im not able to were i have it sitting at.
This seems to me to be the entire issue  If covered forgive me, btu everyone is focusing on where a "bilge" is and why the water collects in the cabin. This is obvious to me. CURRENTLY (as stored) the lowest point in the hull/bilge is this little compartment. He could get 300 gallons out of there if the water kept coming in from anywhere, this is a gravity thing . . .

I still have a problem with 3 hoses going into a Box of some sort...

This box is not the lowest point of the boat ( bilge ) nor is it a stand alone sump for a Shower lets say ( sump ).

But you have a box that takes water from a lower bilge area and ..it Must IMO Pump the water into the Tank ??

What is the Reason for the Box/Tank with 3 drains ??? A mod ? or Containment ?? Im still baffled.

Im sure you have a bilge pump .. yea ? .. does it pump overboard directly ?..

The anchor locker should be self draining..either overboard or through a channel that goes into a bilge..

The Only reason to have a Plastic tank is for Freash water..Holding tank..or Containment ( from the bilge ? ) ..

There is NO reason to have a plastic box with 3 hoses hooked up to it to transfer water from one section of the bilge/boat to another part of the boat.. unless its a Sump...and then still sumps have there own pump to overboard water.

But to just have a tank that fills up with water for NO reason .. just stumps me..sounds like someone tried to Pipe/plumb some hoses and got something crossed....or removed a pump ..

Why do you believe that? I am not 100% sure by any stretch, and the picture is unclear, but if the bow is down a little on the trailer, why can't this be the lowest point as she sits?

The original pic is of a step well in the cuddy cabin entrance. It has a flip up lid on it. The OP post shows a wet/dry vac hose into the well picking up water.

The drains are there to help any accidental flooding in the cabin drain quickly into the bilge area to be pumped overboard in the event of cabin flooding.

The step well could certainly be the lowest point in the boat. It all depends on how the boat sits on the trailer (most sit level), the topography of where it's parked, and the elevation of the trailer tongue.

Like I said before, the water in the setp well is draining from the bilge area. How it's getting into the bilge is the question.

Re: What is this compartment on my 98 bayliner trophy???

Ok just to clear up this issue once and for all. I had this same issue. But also my floor was rotted in front of the "step hatch" When I replace the floor I fond that only the outer hull is under the floor. The drain you describ drains the water from the very front of the boat to the rear bilage. The excess water you are finding is from you foam being saturated up front under the forward birth. When I was replacing my floor I found a constant trickle of water under the floor from this same compartment. It does not have a drain in it. I drilled a hole up under the floor to aid in the migration of the trapped water to this same step compartment. Where the water came from originally was the front anchor locker. If any water enters that compartment it migrates into the foam compartment under the forward birth. That is the dark stain on everyones walls under the anchor locker. Common for trophy boats.

What you need to do to fix your problem.

1) Fix the drain hole up in you anchor compartment. Reseal the hole.

2) You need to drain the trapped water in the forward flotation foam chamber and dry it out. I'm not saying that you need to remove you floor to do this. BUt a couple of exploritory 1/4" drill holes along the floor could prove alot of information.

Sorry I would give you a couple of pics with arrows but the cabin is a bit full untill Santa shows up tonight. If you know what I mean.

I was just looking at the downward draw of the hose connected in the first OPs pic...thinking this tank was on a step of some kind..

I have been known for looking at pics and seeing it in the wrong prospective before ;) .

Even if It was the lowest point... Why would there be a plastic tank to store water thats in your bilge ?? Wouldnt you think thats what the Bilge Pump is for ? .. I dunno.. just me then.. ( Unless..again its for some kind of containment ?? ) .
