What is the consensus on using Lucas to top off outdrive? Or to fill?

I truly do not know. Each company uses a proprietary additive that they each say is better, but it is prolly something stupid like crushed freeze dried pig testicles. You could prolly find it online if needed.

I don't have pigs, so i hope it isn't pig testicles. Freeze-dried or otherwise.

No one has mentioned it, so I guess I will......

I don't know about the Volvo Drive oil but some of the marine gear oil marketers claim that their specific marine type oil WILL still adequately lubricate a drive when contaminated with a small amount of water. (maybe they all will.....but only a few CLAIM to)

http://www.bwbmag.com/output.cfm?id=1891729&sectionid=308

Amsoil makes the same claim. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/agm.aspx I cannot say if anyone has independently checked out Amsoil.... There's a lot of testamonials (which doesn't tell you chit!!)

I may try it next change because the local NAPA Auto parts dealer carries it and it was somewhere around $8-9/qt the last time I checked.....

Lucas gear oil to top off my Volvo outdrive?

Lucas oil to FILL it at next draining?

Pros-Cons?

i have used it in a INDUSTRIAL application for gear whine in drive gear box with exceptional results, it will definitely stick to gears and take up some gear clash to quiet gears down ,longevity is unknown at this time -still working

Bond-O...what are you using it IN?

Is it a Volvo?

When I do a fluid swap, I will definitely find something cheaper. I used Mystik oils in my Seadoo Jet boat. It cost $14 per gallon compared to BRP's $90 per gallon!!! Just as good, if not better. And MADE IN HOUSTON!

Ayuh,... I manage a stable full of Mercruisers, mostly Alphas...

I had an Issue with 1 a few years ago, gainin' water...
I was truely Amazed at the lubricity of the Mobil 1, when water is added to it...
Been using it faithfully ever since,...
It's pretty much like the Merc. Hi-Pro, without the pretty colored dyes...

Does it have "stuff" like the stuff that seems to settle out of the Merc HP oil?

Been using Mobil 1 for many years in hi performance rear ends and manual transmissions (that dont use auto tranny fluid), and the only "stuff" I have ever seen settle out was a few large pieces of gears that failed due to user error, not due to lube failure. Mobil 1 is top notch stuff. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic oil and a Mobil 1 filter (if available) in everything...even my riding mower. After talking with the many oil company reps that came into the parts stores, I was surprised how many oils come from the exact same spigot onthe exact same fill line. The only thing that changed was the name brand and the price. Mobil 1 was one of the few proprietary synthetic companies that does all their own testing and research. I am not a Mobil 1 rep, I was just very impressed. Have used them ever since with zero complaints. If they make it in the correct specs, I will use it.
