This boat was given to me last year and I have been slowly restoring it. I think it is a 15ft 1961 penn yan, but don't know the model name. Does anyone know anything about penn yan wooden boats or know of a good website to get information from? Thanks

All I see is a Red X........

Penn Yans were built by Penn Yan Boat Co. in Penn Yan N.y.,......
It's down in the Finger Lakes region,......Northeast of Watkins Glen.......

Penn Yan's were fairly numerous and popular here in NJ. The curiser-sized boats had that famous tunnel hull design where the inboard prop was mostly buried in a concave part of the hull. Made the stern of the boat rise when underway. I had always heard they were a well-bulit boat. I have no personal experience however.

There are quite a lot of them in the 1000 Island area due to the proximity as bond-o mentioned. Penn Yan is a small town on the North end of Kueka Lake and named for the Pennsylvania Yankees that settled there. The boats are very high quality and are pretty much hand made. That is probably why the co. went out of business because of the cost of quality competing with mass produced boats. There was talk at one time of a group of guys that worked at the boat yard getting together to try to revive the company. I have no idea if that happened or not but there may be some web sites and I'm sure there must be owners clubs around.
