Safe boating is universal and just makes good sense!

Thanks for posting that Triton II

I'm going to do about 40mph under 4 bridges in a row this morning, it is safe, AND legal.
Some of you need to keep your fears to yourself.

If it's legal where you live, go for it!

... but I don't think you can call it a fear if there's a law against it on the waters that other people boat on.

No, but there are people acting like it is illegal, or unsafe anywhere, and that going over 5mph is dangerous. Come AWN!

Skargo I put a :( sign in my post regarding the authority's reaction because I don't agree with the authorities making a 10 knot speed limit when within 30 metres of bridge pylons. I've been boating there for years and regularly motored flat out between that bridge's pylons as there's plenty of room and they're also one-way to stop any potential for a head-on collision.

However, now, due to the actions of one idiot, there is a universal 10 knot limit near bridges throughout the State of New South Wales which is one reason I'm pleased to have moved to Queensland. This site is great for making iboaters aware of the implications of the actions of some of the people who share the waterways with us, and I agree with jigngrub that safe boating is common sense and hopefully universal.

The authorities will continue to "dumb down" the regulations for boating if common sense doesn't prevail so let's all stick to the rules and use common sense to prevent the possibility of further restrictions. That way, you will be able to continue enjoying your 40 mph safe and LEGAL blast under the bridges. :)

what's safe also depends on the bridge and the conditions. Narrow openings, low clearance, closely spaced pilings, night-time, all affect what is right. As does typical boat traffic; around here people troll along the bridges and anchor in or just in front of openings, and the clearance is low.

The same here, we have a multitude of Crappie fishermen that fish the bridges, mostly at night but some during the day too. They have ropes thrown over the steel beams and horizontal concrete on the lower bridges that almost look like vines in a jungle, and tie off to the vertical pilings or anchor at the taller bridges. So many people do this, you have to get there 2 or 3 hours before sunset just to get a spot!

This doesn't just happen in freshwater either, they do it in the salt and brackish waters too for Redfish, Sheepshead, and whatever else they can catch.

I'll take some pics the next time I'm out and post them here.

It's only legal if you're more than 100 feet from the structure.

If you tie up to bridges around here, you'll be in trouble, as they are highway and railroad bridges and they don't want any potential terrorists hanging around.
You guys did see my video, right? VERY high bridges with wide spans.
