I'm sure I'm not the only freaky guy that gets weirded out doing WOT through the underpass... but if you blew your twin engine into the ramp of the bridge, how stupid would you feel? or even look? I certainly hope all was well after this.

I'm sure this has been talked about on this forum... but I just saw it:

Admiral wants to take the boat to ozarks, some of my old stomping ground, but never been on a lake other than Tenkiller in OKlahoma... Arkansas looks very pretty.

this boat pic was from this page: http://www.riverbills.com/archive_2009_01_jan.html

My bet is a steering failure. The boat probably turned, hit the shallow water and followed the shore until it hit that gangway. It wasn't going very fast when it hit. I feel sorry for the owner, thats a sweet Scarab.

I know it's fun to make jokes about someoneelses misfortunes but I caution you in doing so, karma is alive and well.

Amen to that, we don't know the story so anything said is just speculation.

This is the scary part: "I'm sure I'm not the only freaky guy that gets weirded out doing WOT through the underpass... "

You NEVER go WOT under a bridge. A bridge is a no wake zone. You can be killed or worse, kill someone else that way.

Never, even if it's allowed? There is NO speed limit under the 4 bridges we go under when we launch. Hundreds a boat a day go under the bridge at cruise or wide open throttle, because it is allowed!

Here's a video of my, passing a friend, as we go under one of the 4.

Maybe in your pond. Big difference down here. A bridge has nothing to do with a no wake zone. We're like Skargo, literally thousands of boats a day go under the bridges at WOT.

The same here in 'Bama!!!... there's a real good reason for that law too!

To the OP: that's a gangway to a floating dock and not a BRIDGE, under no circumstances should anyone ever try to navigate a vessel under it to get to the other side.

jigngrub - yep you are correct. That specific incident occurred on our lake a couple of years ago. If my memory is correct, they lost control at high speed, hit the seawall and then careened under the dock ramp.

I figured that was about the way it went.

Now that you mention it OldePharte, I see where the seawall is "skinned up" and the guy on the left looking down at it.

I'll bet the port side of that boat isn't looking quite as spiffy as the starboard.

Re: What if you ran your boat into the bridge?

I am in total agreement with No Wake under a bridge.
I know the damage that can be caused by a wave/wake hitting you at an odd angle while underway, at speed. It can skew you to one side in a flash, and I'd rather that not happen under a bridge, so even if there aren't "No Wake" signs around a bridge, I still slow down to idle speed, because if I get pushed into a bridge support at 3 mph it'll hurt a lot less than faster speeds.

A friend, an experienced boater, and a deputy, was on duty on the lake I frequent last year when he and another deputy got hit with an odd wake from a pontoon boat. You wouldn't think that could cause a problem, but it did, enough that my friend was thrown from the boat and the other deputy was killed from hitting his head on the metal roll bar supporting the hard top.

Three weeks ago Dad took a good hit in the ribs from the windshield from on his Nova II when the boat rolled suddenly from a wake. He was standing and not holding on as tight as he should have been. He says his ribs are still sore and has not been back out since.

Everyone be safe out there.

Re: What if you ran your boat into the bridge?

Safety first people! Slow down and enjoy life! Ever been hit by a fly in the face at 120mph. Feels like a fishing weight. My boat will do 70mph. I do that for about 20 seconds if at all just to clean things out a bit. After that I do a max of 30mph and slow down when crossing wakes etc. Once I was in San Francisco bay hauling about 55mph on what appeared to be a sheet of glass. Suddenly I was about 11 feet in the air and watchin stuff in my boat float around as if anti gravity switch was on. OH and no life jacket was on either. I did see it next to me in the air though. Won't catch me doin seventy without a jacket now. Go on you tube and watch other people crash their boats and leave the wreckin to them. Slow down people! Oh yeah...ever look at the scrapes and scratches on those pilings under the bridge and think....howd that happen?

I have no problem with going fast, but I would never do it without the safety equipment in place and operative, including life jacket and kill switch.

The top of a body of water may or may not be flat. Any boating requires care and diligence. The most damage a rogue wake should cause you is to swamp your boat. I have to admit, though, that these new high horsepower toons can sure toss the bass boat around.

Re: What if you ran your boat into the bridge?

This a result of going too fast while attempting to navigate between bridge supports. Guy showing off to girlfriend killed her when he hit the masonry at 40 knots. He missed the pylon when he was ejected over the screen and survived... she headbutted it (look at the right hand lowest portion of the stonework) and didn't! :(

This is the authority's response to that idiot's actions. :(

Be careful near bridges, they can kill!
