Re: What if Roe vs Wade was reversed.....

The issue of abortion is just a symptom of a greater problem. That problem is what must be addressed, not abortion and its complications. There really is no reason why we sould be divided on this. We need to raise our children better. We need to arm them with the incentive to not participate in the activities that lead to abortion, or at least arm them with the knowledge that prevents the pregnancy to begin with. We just shudder in our churches or whatever wringing our hands and blaming TV or Democrats, doing the best we can to avoid the subject of sex with our kids. Then we wonder why they sneak off and have sex, then have abortions. People fight over this because it is easier than admitting that they failed as parents after finding out that, yes, young people want to have sex, and make poor choices in the absense of knowledge.

Jtexas,<br /><br />We should never be so pathetic that we relinquish the raising of our children to the government. They end up doing porn plays led by teachers who have no common sense. When god was replaced by Bill Clinton, When modesty was replaced by individuality, and when personal responsibility was replaced by welfare, and when fathers were reduced to sperm doners and cash providers by liberal womens movement it all fell apart. Thousands of years defining what it takes to make a solid society, experimented into what we have today. Children have been reduced to possessions to many. Exactly what kind of a father would let his daughter dress like a stripper, get into a limo, go to a drinking party and spend the night in a hotel. Todays modern prom.<br /><br />We lost the capasity to use the word no. No works almost every time it is used. Our children are a product of the entitlement society we have become. They are entitled to dress like fools, entitled to fail if they want, entitled to a car, entitled to a prom experience, entitled to date at younger and younger ages, entitled to abortions. Did you see Ryans post about some girl he had been dating for a week? $400 a month on haircuts! What about college or is that entitled as well. Nothing seems to be earned today. We seem to think that a 14-15-16 year old can make the decisions of an adult. They can't, that is why they are called children and recieve special protection under the law. Shame doesn't exist anymore, because who is anyone to judge.

Doggoneit, JasonJ, don't go talking about anything you HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED.<br /><br />You wrote:<br /><br />
Can't say that I see a lot of wealthy do-gooders rushing out there to adopt all those little babies born to non-white teenage mothers. All I ever see is the continued hypocrasy from the shrieking pro-lifers who don't even come close to practicing what they preach
That's insult # 2. You've got one more. :( <br /><br />I'm wealthy, but I could not come up with $50K-minimum. Why, because I'm white. The road blocks are unbelievable on many dimensions.

Why is it that all Americans are supposed to enjoy the same rights and privacy, but men are not afforded the choice when it comes to child support? Shouldn't a man have the right to order an abortion for his wife or girlfried is he does not choose to be a father?

1 question.....and I'm sure gonna catch grief(or alot worse) for it BUT........aren't there MANY more cases of miscarriages every year than there are abortions? And if so, wouldn't that make God the #1 destroyer of babies?

Re: What if Roe vs Wade was reversed.....

JB, I agree with your point of view here.<br /><br />The law fundamentally has to decide at which point life "begins" and take it, from a legal standpoint, out of the realm of religious and moral grounds, to the legal. Everyone is free to establish their own definition of what is "moral" , but everyone is required to obey the law.<br /><br />I don't pretend to know what that standard should be. Consciousness is a new one to me--I have heard "viability" used--and even an arbitrary "first trimester" definition. And of course the "conception" opinion. I don't know what the standard should be, but the result needs to be argued on legal grounds, and not moral or religious grounds.

If a man does not want to have a child then he should not dip into the gene pool.

I agree with you Vlad, but shouldnt the same standard hold for women? If a woman does not want a child she should keep the cover on the pool.

This subject is not black & white (and I'm NOT refering to skin color), there will always be grey areas that will be debated forever.<br /><br />If you follow God's will, "Thou Shalt Not Kill" leaves nothing to interpretation yet as a modern/moral society, we interpret it often.<br /><br />I am not religious, yet i find abortion abhorrent. And I agree with LF that life begins at conception.

Re: What if Roe vs Wade was reversed.....

Great theories Jason but you sound like you live in a lily white neighborhood. I don't and through daily contacts with lots of minorities believe that we each know one another pretty well. I have numerous valued minority friends. That having been said, contrary to assumptions, nonwhite expectant mothers rarely get an abortion. Regardless of how young they are they want the baby. Pregnancy out of wedlock carries no stigma. Nor do they expect the father to marry them or hang around long to be a father figure. The ones doing the paying are not the ones doing the breeding. There are financial incentives to breed and they know them all. Typical is one family I know that receives an SSI check monthly for each of their 4 kids for $525 for speech impediments. Can you say ebonics? Another dude I knew died out of state and two different women he wasn't married to quickly got it established that he was the father of two of their kids each and each child will receive a social security check until they are 18. Excess kids go to grandma and occasionally an aunt, especially the crack babies. The emasculation of the american male has only happened to the white ones. Minority men are still down on the corner in front of the convenience store posturing and waiting for their old ladies to get home from work. Females are the agressors in a relationship. I agree that few white do gooders will wind up adopting minority children. My problem with abortion is centered on late term which is definitely murder. If Roe vs Wade was overturned it is my understanding that each state would then determine if it was legal in their state. The worse that could happen then would be that a pregnant woman wanting a legal abortion would have to make a trip to Calif or Mass. As the father of two adopted children now grown and college educated professionals, I have a special sensitivity for adoption.

Of course, we (you and I) wouldn't be so. But we (as a nation under God) have many, many, many, many children who are parents, who won't or can't, or couldn't even if they wanted to because their parents were children who didn't know what the heck they were doing because their parents were children...<br /><br />I think you know where I'm going with this. We shouldn't give up our children to the government, but we (as a nation under God) must either accept the fact that children are giving birth to children, or else do something about it.<br /><br />Saying "the parents need to take responsibility" just ain't gonna get r done.<br /><br />We're pretty smart, collectively, surely there's something we (as a nation under God) can do?

Re: What if Roe vs Wade was reversed.....

do we debate over whether a cancer is alive or dead? ladyfish pretty much spelled it out, to me anyway. once the zygote is formed its alive. it sure seems that if its not, then it would be dead. <br />my wife feels very different about this topic than i do, since i can agree with some abortions. <br /><br />but to reply to anyone who is wondering, the bible tells us that God knew us -before- we were born. it that the spirit you are thinking of? just an fyi

Let's mix a little religion and science here - <br /><br />Religion:<br />"For the life of the flesh is in the blood...."<br />Leviticus 17:11 (KJV). <br /><br />Science:<br />It takes 22 days from fertilization until the fetus' heart begins to pump its own blood.

Re: What if Roe vs Wade was reversed.....

Start a new thread if you want to "thump the bible".....Please read the previous posts about prevention....I think if "Allah" didn't want abortion He would prevent it....Either He is asleep, dead, or doesn't exist.....At least on a basis that anyone on this planet truly understands. If He wanted to find loving families for the unwanted. He would. ...If He wanted to end the suffering in the third world countr=ies ...He would..If God wanted to post here, He would....When He, She,It does...I will try to pay attention....I have seen/heard way to many charlatans who report to have heard 'His ' word....I'd rather you quote "Rush"...NOT!. Again a new thread for that topic, please...JK

Like I said....Leave God out of the topic....Separation of church & state is really fundimental to the constitution....When religious zealots are allowed to rule, it hurts everyone, and it doesn't matter who their "God" of choice is....JK
