Hi new here... and I'm going to put power in a boat that's been without a motor for awhile. It had a Volvo so I'd like to keep it that way so as not to redo the transom. The boat is a 23 ft medium Vee, Cuddy. Long and lean. There is a lot of Volvo 4 cylinder motors out there for sale .. but I'm concerned that would not be enough. those are mostly 115 - 120 HP. I would like fuel ecomomy but it's got to move the boat too. and not work too hard . Any advice here would be great... Thanks

Re: What HP do I need ?

23ft is a pretty big boat. I would want at least 200-250hp to make it perform respectably.

My current 21ft boat which has 300 (prop)HP, was also offered with 260hp. They performed *ok*........ Anything less would probably barely plane the boat....

I'd get at least a small block V-8 or an EFI V-6

Don't skimp on HP.

Cheers,

Rick
