Thanks but I live in Vancouver, BC Canada. I'm looking for a 15-20hp 2 stroke that weighs under 90lbs. Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. Cheers

Are you sure a 1996 Yamaha 20hp 2 stroke short shaft weighs 108lbs? Where can I find what different outboard motors weigh, is there a website?

Re: What horsepower motor to use on light weight 14' aluminum boat?

Thanks again to everyone who answered my questions. This site is super helpful and so is everyone on it. I'm definitely not getting either yamaha, ones to beat and the other to heavy. I've narrowed it down to the early 90's 18hp 2 stroke Nissan ss in good shape and a 93 15hp Mariner 2 stroke ss that has never been used and stored since new. Anyone know if parts are still readily available for both engines? Especially the Mariner since they no longer make Mariners. Also Does Anyone know what the Mariner would weigh? How reliable are each engine compared to each other? I also should mention I'm using it for lake fishing and dropping off crab nets. Can either be used in salt water without risking damaged as long as I flush them or are there some outboards which are only supposed to go in fresh water? Thx

There post is pretty much closed I'm looking for a light weight 15hp or maybe 18hp or 20hp if I find one asap. I started new thread in regards to Mariner or Nissan motors. Thx to everyone for their input, I'm new to boating and don't know much about boating stuff. Thanks again, Buzzer
