What Fuel Pump Options Do I have?

Hey Everyone :)

I am just about ready to put my Mercruiser 120 Engine back into my boat. I fabbed up some new motor mounts for it as it is going into a Bayliner Capri. I have the old style Carter Fuel pump with diaphragm and I wanted to get a service kit for it before I install the engine. It sat for 7 years so I figured now would be a good time to do it. I am finding out that parts are almost impossible to find for this pump. Could you offer some suggestions as to what else I could use for a fuel pump? or where I might be able to find parts for mine?

Thanks in advance!

you may be able to search around for the seldom purchased service kit and find one or you can spring for a new pump.

the serviceable fuel pumps went away because no-one serviced them. they simply replaced them.

If your heart is set on the rebuild kit, I would start googling to see who may still carry the service kits.

Wow that was fast LOL! Yeah, thought you were out of luck til I saw that you have a 1968 engine, there is no kit for the newer pumps.

I have the pump so I would love to just put in a service kit if I could save some $$$

Don't waste your time. Fuel pump rebuild kits are something like $25 or so.......It's simply not worth rebuilding an old pump where the savings would be an equivalent to about 20 gallons of gasoline.

You also run the risk of getting a "kit" that is "New, Old Stock" . Rebuilding a pump with an old diaphragm could put you in a place where it fails in a very short time right when you need it.
