What engines can I swap out my toasted Yamaha/GM L4 3.0?

After some great advice on my 1993 VIP Vision with a Yamaha L4 3.0, I'm looking to swap out the engine with an equal Mercruiser. Can someone help me with some info on compatible Mercruisers for my swap search?

Ive found a Mercruiser 3.7 Liter big bore 4-cyl. 140 Engine not sure on year...

And Mercruiser 305 off a 1996 Celebrity boat.

I think your best bet is to sell what you have a start again. This is a good thread to read through because the same questions came up and answered. If things have changed maybe Bondo can advise

Thanks again, ive read these previous posts, but still questioning the compatibility of different year makes and sizes of the Mercruisers with the boat/transom hole itself. Sorry for my ignorance if I'm asking repetitive questions. What year range is considered a "late" Volvo Penta?

Is there a certain year make Mercruiser that I need to seek out as the best replacement?

Yamaha copied Mercruiser, so the hole in the transom is the same. Volvo has same hole as well

Look for a post 92 mercruiser with alpha or volvo with sx drive
