Re: what engine oil should I use

Just so I'm clear...If my recommended oil is 25w-40 FC-W oil...and I live in a Warm Subtropical climate and I only go out between 70-95 degrees F (Air temp) I can use straight 30 or 40 W Marine FC-w Oils?

Also, regardless of how many here think that these threads about oil are a waste of time I am cool with them...I think old info changes and I find myself looking for the new info and saving some bucks because of the expensive oil recommendations.

I also understand the mechanics that have ripped apart so many danged marine engines that thier hands are falling off etc...etc...etc... and I take that to heart. But are you saying I can save tons of money and just go to My local Pep Boys and buy regular 10w-40 automotive oil and my engine will be fine except for lifter noise?

Then why all the hubub?

I think the end result is simply what DonS has said. If you are not going to follow the Manufacturer's recommendation then do whatever you want as you are now on your own. Annnnnd, that you can find someone that will tell you whatever you want to hear . . .

Oh, and the chart Shadow refers to, it is important to note that the oils are listed in order of preference, top to bottom.
