Does anyone know how much it might roughly cost to bore out an engine? say size... 140hp, 85hp, 65hp

What do you think the values of those engines are if they are from the 80s

Around a $100 a hole in our area + more than that for each piston. Not much!

Around hear you can usually pick up a running thirty year old outboard for three or four hundred dollars.

Locally there is a guy on CL that claims to do it $36 a hole. I have no clue what some one who really knows what they are doing charges. And then you have to oversize rings maybe pistons.

Depends on the shop, and it varies a LOT.When I had an old 6cyl car engine bored .020 over a few years ago, it was $20/ hole at the local Napa that has a machine shop in the back. The entire workup on that engine was only $250 IIRC, which included magnaflux on block and 3 different heads, boring, cam bearings, piston fitting, and fitting the pistons on the rods.. Other local shop wanted $100/hole for boring

Since this in the Merc section, I'll toss this out. Is it more expensive to bore an integrated block, one piece block/head, than a two piece with a removable head?

Yes more money, it has to be blind bored and the first challenge is to find someone in your area that does it.

About $150 / cylinder. Get an experienced machinist to do it though.

I charge $68 a hole but that also includes: port chamfering, honing to finished size, chamfering top of cyl and stamping cyl size on block, restrictor modification and for a additional $85 you can get it hot tanked/chemical washed and oiled ready to assemble!!!

I know an EXTREMELY good shop locally that does it for $45 a hole bored and diamond honed and their work is top notch. Fast turnaround too. Thats for open top bores and they dont do blind holes but since I have sworn those pieces of crap off I'm not complaining too much.
