What do you think about these seat layouts?

Right now the Capri has this factory seat layout for 4 adults, Its the common back to back lounge seat setup. Seeing as the boat how has a hard top, lounge seats for sunning yourself don't seem like such a good idea, and the kids or me are never going to sleep on them.

Option 1: Want something a little more practical. Like the L shape seats that some of the bigger cruisers use. And a swivel/adjustable captians chair would be nice too. So this layout came to mind with a fixed L shape lounge with fixed backs and storage under some of the seat (keep the floatation foam that is there now). Should seat 3 adults snugly on the L lounge, and 1 in the captians chair. Also might run the seat right up against the cuddy V birth (it would be about 4 inches higher than the V birth). The Cuddy door is coming off permanently, just don't need it. Also leaves some standing room behind the captians chair.

Option 2: Similar to the design above, but this design has folding down sections. The orange part of the L lounge will fold down, and another folding jump seat is added behind the captians chair. This frees up more floor space when the boat is not at full capacity.

And with seats folded down. Just a grey line to show where they would be when in the up possition.

Yep, its winter and time to make plans and day-dream about the ultimate setup you want for your boat! :D

Excuse the fuzzy pictures, they are cut from the oem brochure and were blown up quite a bit to make these images.

mark i like the drop down set up, and possiblity of doing a drop down one each side of the dog house? my cobia had them, and they were very handy, for kids.

Thanks TD! I think I like the folding seats option best too. These smaller boats don't have a lot of floor space, so its nice to free it up when possable.

Thats a splash well, not a dog house, it is deceiving how little deck space there is in this boat.

OK my cobia had like a 8 or 9 inch wide padded seat, that just raise up, and had a stick you put under it. great just for a kid. each side of the splash well. believe me i know about lack of deck space, why i finally went with a toon, and it is getting tight.

Seems a lot of the Fish and Ski's are comming out with jump seats on either side of the splashwell. These are convienent if you suddenly find you need extra seating or if someone decides to get some sun.

I like the fold down idea Mark42 came up with. That makes a lot of sense. The only thing I would take into consideration is that it eliminates some of the extra storage space you might get under a permanent seat.

I'm fussy about where people sit, I don't have adjustable trim tabs to adjust an uneven load and with two or 3 adults sitting on one side just drives me nuts, I would keep the layout somewhat symetrical for an even weight distribution.
The starboard kicker and batterys may balance you out pretty good.

I can see how that layout could promote an out of balance with adults. But most of the time, its just my wife, me and our 9 and 5 yr old kids, and the kids are all over the boat, in the cuddy, on the lounge seats, standing, sitting, etc. They drive me nuts! So it shouldn't be a problem for us.

Its under a cover for winter, but I was just inside earlier today taking some measurements for seat layouts. All the main fiberglass work is done. Still needs fairing, paint and window/windshield glass installed.

Re: What do you think about these seat layouts?

I found this bucket seat shell on ebay. I just couldn't help myself, its new and with shipping cheaper than any other bucket shell I could find, so I called the seller and bought it over the phone.

So I'm going to try my hand at upholstering it. This will be my new Captians Chair!

Any suggestions for upholstering are welcome.

Would like to get one of those 12-way locking swivels to go with it.

If it comes out nice, then I'll make the bench seat out of ply and upholster it to match.

You may want to pick up a real cheapy auto seat cover that you could make alterations to. Get it to an exact fit with a lighter fabric then you would have a good pattern to go from. I made some covers for my dunebuggy seats this way and they turned out not too bad. The shell is very similar to what you have. I was going to just use the fabric but realized it would never hold up in that application so I went with a vinyal. The hardest part was getting the right machine and needles. Good luck...
