Hello group, what control box is needed for a 1972 Merc 140hp. I see that some have a blue stripe and some are red. Is the plug at the motor the same? Wish that I could post photo's but to large. I used to be able to.
Either box will work but why not match the motor decals. (This forum is limited to 200k images). The boat wiring harness has to match the engine side and there are several types, but all you have to do is swap wiring from one box to the other. I don't have a wiring diagram for the '72 but this might be good:
Thanks again merc850, that is where my problem is. The harness in the boat is frayed at the plug and at the ignition switch. The Engine harness will also need replaced as it is frayed again at the plug.
