What clear coat should I use?

I have a 1986 Glasstron that has a burgandy/grey color coat. The gel coat seems to be gone. I've tried buffing/wax and within a month it turns dull again.

I'm thinking of putting on a clear coat. My plan is to remove any wax, then sand with 400 to 600 to 800 wet and dry to make sure I'm past the gel coat and into the color. Then shoot it with clear.

My local paint supplier is recommending Dupont 2400s.

I would appreciate any comments on my plans, the prep, Dupont 2400s, or other products.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The color is the gel coat....if you sand off the gel you'll be down to the glass....There are many threads on wet sanding then buffing out your boat here... The search engine here is your friend :)

Then just buff after your 800 and leave it ( throw the wax away ).

You need to get all that crap off the gel..buff it and leave it alone :) no wax..
