What can cause this??

These are my symptoms, can someone help me diagnose this?

When i try and start the engine, it will only start and run very rough, with the electric choke set to manual (red switch perpendicular to the choke selnoid itself)

Once i turn the choke to automatic (parallel with the seleniod) it runs for about 5 more seconds then dies.

I took the carb apart and sprayed it down with choke and carb cleaner, the exact same thing i did earlier this year when i had a similar problem, but this time it didn't fix it. I rebuilt the fuel pump also, and the symptoms of this kind of make me think i did something wrong with the fuel pump.

Thanks for the help.

The normal running position is to have that red lever positioned over top of the solenoid and aimed at the other end of the solenoid, gently turned to its stop. Having it face the opposite way would cause the engine to flood. Pic compliments of Tash.

When starting pump up the fuel bulb until hard, crank engine and push the key in simultaneously. When the engine fires, release the key so that it falls back to the run position.

That is how i have the choke set, although mine looks a bit different, the switch is set the same.

I've checked and my spark is fine, i've got ~130 psi on both cylinders. I just really think it's a fuel supply problem.

when you did the carb, did you remove #19 high speed orifice, 25 low speed orifice, change #21 needle valve and seat, and the float. when looking into the carb from the motor side, flip the butterfly open, and in the top are 2 tiny holes they must be clear, thats how the motor gets fuel at low speeds. the carb has to be totally clean, you probably using spray, just soften up the gunk so it could move. you need this tool to remove #19.

when clean follow these instructions. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=167352

Re: What can cause this??

I called a shop and the guy told me to make sure i didn't put the float in upside down, because that is what it sounded like, and sure enough, i did So i took the boat out and she runs amazing now, better than she's ever run! New fuel pump, impeller and carb cleaned!

Now if i can only choose where i want to go this weekend and fish...
