I agree, coming from the standpoint of a charity, do them a favor and sell the car and donate the proceeds ... If you donate the car, they will wholesale it and you will get less credit and they will get less money, plus they incur transportation, storage, and selling fees. In the end, they may lose money because of your generosity. Instead, post it on Craigslist or another free selling site, sell it yourself, and give the proceeds to the charity of your choice. You will have to deal with the time and effort to sell it, but you will get more tax credit because it will actually generate income for the charity.
