Getting the boat ready for spring fishing and will be adding at least one trolling motor battery. I`ve got the 06 Q6 fish&ski and have not decided which trolling motor I will be using on the boat. Right now, I`m leaning toward the wireless W55 motorguide and am not sure whether to go with 1 or two batteries for longer use. I`m a little skeptical as to whether a 55lb motor will be sufficient for the Q6. What are the most reliable batteries out there be used?

I bought a deep cycle from Bass Pro. They were having a sale. You have to use a deep cycle for the trolling motor. They are designed to be fully discharged and then recharged. If you use a regular starting battery it will not last and you will be buying another battery before long.

I agree. And even with the deep cycle try not to run it completely dead all the time. If you are going to be doing a lot of trolling get a group 31 deep cycle. Also recommend a battery switch so you can combine the trolling and starter batteries for charging when you are cruising to the next fishing hole.

Cheers~!

Re: What are u guys using for batteries?

Just my two cents worth ,but I use two trolling batts. on my Q3 s/f with a w55 wireless and have been all along . Like trendsetter240 stated try not to run it all the way down as it will take a lot longer to bring up depending on charger. I have always stayed away from using my main engine batt. as the newer motors have a voltage issue that I don't want to get into with my 150efi. Have a perco switch but have yet to install it so as I wont have to unhook wires when one goes down when trolling. To give you an idea my wire less runs around 4-5 hrs of almost constant trolling (walleye & or stripers) before the battery is really low and needs to be switched out.

Thanks for the info paul. Looks like I`ll be getting my W55 tuesday. I know the Q6 is larger than your Q3, but how does the W55 move your boat around?

Maddog,
I also have an 08 Q6 F/S with the 55 thrust and it works fine for my liking. Paul is right with the 4-5 hours of constant trolling. You may be closer to the 4 hour than the 5 with the slightly bigger boat though. Just make sure you charge your battery yourself before you use it the first time, I made the mistake of assuming my battery was fully charged when I purchased the boat new and the first time out it lasted about an hour.

Thanks guys. I was wondering if the Q6 trolling wiring would handle a 24 volt system, but I think i`ll just go with the W55. So far only positive reports on it.

Re: What are u guys using for batteries?

My 06 came with an Interstate trolling motor battery (I can't get the larger batteries through my hatch btw), and when I was getting my boat ready to put in this week I found out that battery is still kicking.

I use a Minn Kota on board charger, and my boat rarely stays in the water for more than a couple of days, but I also have a lot of 4-6 hour days mostly on the trolling motor. The Interstate sells for about $120, which is more than I normally spend, but when this one dies, I'll get another.

BTW, I bought an Academy Stowaway starting battery last May (1000/800), and it stopped charging this month. They replaced it for free. Normally I don't have anything go out until two days after the warranty expires.
