What are good sealers for wood and best way to prep?

I have a few wood assecories on the boat that needs to be refinished. Should I just sand it with 180 sandpaper then 150? Then shoukd i use a sealer or teak? How do you guys restore wood accessories? What is a good way to finish it to make-a-nice?

Teak oil, if it is teak . . .

or

Polyurethane

or

Epoxy

The problem with teak oil is that it needs constant re-application. Polyurethane will get you several years or more depending on sun exposure. Epoxy should get you a bit more longevity.

On my powerboats, no wood trim. Your Grady-white is a bit older as I recall, so they still used a bit of teak trim back then.

If your boat has teak, I highly recommend the Starbrite 3 part kit to restore it. There is a cleaner, brightener and then an oil. It takes some elbow grease but you can't beat the end result IMO. Teak is an amazing wood. My old Four Winns had a teak swim deck, stern grab rail and a few wood accent pieces. As long as its not stored on the water all day everyday the finish will look great with just a few applications of oil a month. Also, the oil actually gave the swim platform some tack, so slips were not an issue.

80 grit it and teak oil it if you want a temp thing ..

You can finish it with a few 6 coats of varnish .. you have to keep up with anything you put on there...

I wouldn't use any of the products shown.

Do you want a smooth glossy finish? A smooth satin finish? A warm oiled look? A grey natural look?

Deciding how much work your willing to do and what look you want to have in the end is step one. I have 8-10 coats of varnish on 3 coats of epoxy dealer on my teak.

I sanded my Teak all the way down to bare wood. Used 80 grit and then 100 grit to make it smooth. Then I used Watco Teak Oil and put 4 coats on it by saturating the wood, waiting an hour and a half between coats to make sure it soaked in good. I put a coat on once a week for a month and now put a coat on monthly.

Hard to tell for sure, but base on your pics, I'd guess YES!!!

Yes mate .. you have teak.

I would do what DRS suggested personally.

You wont get 2 years out of teak oil.. but its not hard to apply a coat of oil once every other week.
