I am repairing my 1986 Sea Ray Seville cuddy, I have cut out the decking just in front of the jump seats up to the back of the back to back seats on each side. I have removed the foam in this spot. However, the foam that goes back to the transom is wet. Do I need to remove that or is there a way to dry it out. I would like to repair this boat without having to remove the engine.
please help

Welcome to Iboats.

The foam will never dry out.
Just out of curiosity, have you taken core samples of the transom and stringers to check for rot? Wet foam found around them is a sign that they may be in rough shape.

I have not taken core samples of the transom. I did however remove the fuel tank. The stringers on the sides of the tank are VERY soft

Looks like you're in for a full restore, If you want to keep this boat. But... If you try and replace her with another used boat, there's no guarantee the one you buy won't be in the same condition. Search the forum for Replacing Stringers and Transoms. You'll find pics and text on everything you need to know about how to do the job.

Yup, doesn't sound good. . . Time to 'join the club' and start posting pictures.

There are plenty of threads on the forum to studdy to see that various approaches for demolition and restoration. Best thing to do at this point is to get a full understanding of the condition of the boat. Then, you can plan your approach.

Okay thank you so much for all the input looks like I'm in for the long haul. That is a very good point about trading it in for another used boat might be in the same spot I am in now.
Just a little overwhelming being a first time boat owner. I guess we'll see just how handy I am.

I'm in a similar situation. Except I'm on the second boat like this. I decided to junk the first and sell the motor and find a boat in "better" shape. Now I'm knee deep in a restore. Its not so bad though, if you have the time and funds!
