Wet 2004 Key Largo CC

I purchased a 2004 Key Largo, 20 ft. C.C. Trail run in Bay. Took it off shore and nearly drown with water coming over transom. What have others done to correct problem? Also the two drainage holes are not functioning. Water constantly coming in through the holes rapidly and not flowing out as quickly. Suggestions please?

Move weight forward....replace /install flappers on drains...buy a pair of boots.

I have since put trim tabs on the boat, since the bow is light. That helps me steer, etc. hasn't helped the water coming over the transom. I hate to ask my guest to wear boots to keep dry, seems so old fashion.

Let's get more specific.
First, are you getting water in the rear deck through the scuppers when the boat is at rest? There are a number of self-bailing boats with the scuppers at the waterline, but built with too little clearance, so that pooling water is a problem. I consider this an unacceptible design defect if the water is always there. On the other hand, if I put two big adults at the corner of mine (21' CC) I get a little water in; I can live with it and it drains back out. So: constant problem or occasional? Water drains or is always there?

Second, "water over the transom." When? if while sitting still you are sinking; abandon ship. if while stern-acnchored, stop doing that--it's a very dangerous practice. If while reversing, it's typical and should be draiing out the splashwell. If while sitting still and waves approach from behind, you have too much weight astern--unless you are in seas too large for the boat.

Not the 1st complaint like this with KL boats. It seems others have found scuppers below waterline under power permit water intrusion. The purpose of rubber scuppers is to close and permit water to leave and not enter. Possibly new rubber from the factory will help. If the floor is below the water line (I think another KL was) sell the boat. Need to know the circumstances of water coming over the stern~~~ that is a huge concern.

I'll have scuppers checked out. The man who sold me the 2004 was the original owner. Apparently the water did not bother him. In 2-4 ft waves, water over transom, and sloshing through the two holes at the divider fiberglass( they have some kind of flap there also, but obviously not working. Looks like ( now that I have taken it off shore) a poorly designed motor area. I like the handling of the boat, and I have just updated it with new electronics, so really want this water problem to go away or at least be minimum. Last trip off shore, we could not stay on structure because we had to speed the boat up with Bow up to get the water off the deck. At the C.C. we ( another woman and I) had to roll our pant legs up because we had water over our ankles. I had a 5 gal bucket floating around me, my tackle box and wt. box got soaked, before I moved them to the front. Miserable trip.

If I were you I would not run off shore until that problem is fixed. You did not tell us what the waves were like or if you were heading into the waves or not. Also you did not tell us where you were boating. If the water gets into the bilge it may sink despite the actions you describe.

I have lived in the Miami area for a slug of years and have read many tales of folks running off shore when they should have left the boat on their trailer. Lots of obituaries. Don't want to read yours.
