Hi everybody,
I have a 1985 Wellcraft Gran Sport with MARINE POWER 454s. I am having a problem with the stringers getting soft and as a result the engine mounts are getting loose after every trip. I have talked to some boat owners and apparently this is very common in 80s boats because of the wood they used under the fiberglass. I installed some plate over the three bolts on the mounts that I could access, but they are still getting loose and every time I tighten them I can hear the fiberglass cringe. I already lost a transmission because of it last year and I can't afford more damage. Does anyone have any suggestions to resolve the problem without taking the motors out and redoing the stringer from scratch. It is an older boat and I love it, but I don't know if it is worth that kind of an investment.
