Re: Welding alum tubes?

I have a similar 240V version of one of those welders.

They work great actually. Some of them have low duty cycles, but that can be fixed by adding a (110V in your case) fan to the case.

If you weld with aluminum on that welder you still have to have a gas tank I think...

I would look for a very in-expensive tig myself if I did alum or stainless very often....

Ayuh,... I mig aluminum with a Rediwelder, 24V powered...

While the welder you linked to might weld aluminum, it'll need a bunch on Not included extras 1st...
Aluminum isn't welded with a flux-cored wire,... You need Gas...

Hey Bond-o, I too have a Rediwelder. What has been the thinest aluminum you have welded with it?

Ayuh,... The Thinnest so far has been the .060" hull of my Starcraft...
And,... That was done with a copper backer,+ doing Spot welds, puddled upon each other...
Pratically speaking,... Aluminum conduit is about the thinnest thing to comfortably weld,..
Again, not running Long welds, but short over-lapping welds...

The .060" hull should have been Tigged, but I have a Mig, not a Tig...

Re: Welding alum tubes?

if you are just doing a repair, have you considered looking to see if there is a mobile welder in your area?? I just had a guy come out and weld up a part on my fire pit and it only cost me $20. You maybe able to get someone to come out for less money than it will cost for you to buy a welder and shielding gas. On top of that they would likely be able to tig it.

EDIT: Somehow I missed the custom aluminum work. For some reason I was thinking toon repair... Depending on how much welding needs to be done it still maybe an affordable option to have someone else weld it.

The harbour freight tig machine will not do alum, it doesn't have AC/DC.!

I think you might need a copper strike plate too as it doesn't have hi freq start. Guys on welding sites like it for the money though.(steel work).

I really like the new(ish) miller diversion 165 tig,
costs around $1200 and does it all at 50lbs weight.
