guys, i went out and inspected my starter for loose bolts...i swear it seems like it is easier to get to after having the old one replaced....is this possible, could the mechanic have moved locations on this thing?<br /><br />anyway, since it seems accessible now, i guess i will pull it off and inspect.

Why do that?? Seems like this should go back to the guy that caused it. If you even touch it, he will blame you!!. And IF the starter was not engaging the flywheel and the ring gear is damaged, its pull the engine time on your nickel anstead of his!!!

vatter41, i hear ya. believe me i do. i just have had such rotten luck so far with this guy im not sure i want him touching it again. kind of like going back to a bad surgon for a botched operation.

yup, I understand and its you're boat and you're dime (was a nickel earlier but it's like gas these days, just up and up and up... well you get the picture.)

Dave, <br />I also have a 1990 bayliner w/ 4.3 L merc engine that needs a starter and maybe gimball bearing.<br />Did you do gimball yourself? Did you have the puller or alignment tool?<br />thx robert

no robert, i left the gimbal bearing to a mechanic, some say its easy, but it was over my head.
