I know it's a Chevy engine from the firing order on the intake but the block is just too small in my opinion to be a 350. Is there anywhere that I may be able to get info on the fuel capacity and the engine?

It's either a 305 or a 350. As already stated a 305 & 350 block's outside dimensions are identical. Here's a picture of the 305 V8 I pulled out of my '79 Glastron Carlson. The sticker on the valve cover says 228 which tells you its a 305 w/4 barrel carb. A 350 that year should say 260. Any MerCrusier labeling that would identify the engine?

Would a 77 have foam. <snip>

I've been doing some research and found that your question is quite apropos. Turns out that this boat probably does NOT have flotation foam since it's over 20 feet in length. Which means the PO at least isn't likely to have to deal with soggy foam adding to the weight of the boat on the trailer.

my 24' boat had lots of foam, a bit of it was waterlogged when I redid the transom and engine mounts. so you cant make a blanket statement considering plenty of 30' plus boats in the restoration forum pulling foam to fix things

4500# empty....trailer weight of 1200#, add 1200# for fuel, oil, gear, stuff, etc. and the 3500# axles are not enough

you cant tell displacement from the outside of the motor. if its a V8, you most likely have an SBC or a BBC. you can build a 255cid up to a 427cid small block and a 330 to 613 cid big block. externally, all small blocks look alike and all big blocks (mark IV and newer) look alike.

If the axles are not enough to handle the weight of the boat then why would the manufacturer of the boat, sell the boat on that trailer?

It's a 40 year old boat, are you sure it's the original trailer? My boat is 29 years old and on its 3rd trailer that I know of, could be 4th
