I just bought a 1977 25ft cabin cruiser. One of the hubs on one side snapped on the trailer while the guy was delivering it. He said that he had to replace the one on the opposite side on the same axel (rear) the year before because it snapped. Does anyone know how heavy this boat might be when it's full on fuel? Are the hubs breaking because of age maybe?

The Great Karnak says your boat weighs exactly 6,100 pounds fully loaded.

Lots more information needed.
Trailer:
Manufacturer
Year of manufacturer
Number of axles
Weight rating
Tongue weight of the loaded trailer.
Overall condition of the trailer - pictures of the broken hub for example

Boat:
Brand
Model
Size
HIN would help

If it is a glasser then at least 5000lbs. I have a 22' alum hull and it weighs around 2400-2600 wet. My single axle trailer has a 3600 lb max capacity with 235/15 tires so my guess is your overloaded unless you have a monster axle and tires on it..

The title says that
Make---- Classic
Model name ----- Interceptor
Boat type----- Run about
Length----- 25.0
Beam---- 8.0

Its a fiberglass hull. The trailer is the original trailer that the boat was sold with out of the factory. I don't have a name on the trailer but it is a dual axel trailer with hydraulic brakes.

My 27ft Century was on a similar trailer. Check your axels. Poor maintenance maybe. Most times those boats are left in the water and the trailer is left outside.

Nearly the limit of a twin 3500lb axles trailer ^^^

Looks like a logo on the sail panel above the antenna in the pix you posted.

It looks like it's probably a post 1972 boat, so the HIN# should be on the title. That will provide you the maker and year.

The title says 1977. The HIN is CSB61495M77K. Can you tell me anything about it with the HIN? Sorry I am all new to this. I appreciate your help.

Welcome aboard.

Yep - A 1977. All the HIN can tell you is below. I like the last paragraph!

4500 pounds empty with no fuel or gear. Add the trailer weight, 7 pounds per gallon for fuel and make a generous guess for gear to come up with a total on the road weight.

Thank you for the info. I can't find anything regarding how many gallons the fuel tank is. And I only have one engine in this boat. The guy I got it from told me that the engine was a 350 Chevy engine. I know my Chevy engines pretty good. I know it's a Chevy engine from the firing order on the intake but the block is just too small in my opinion to be a 350. Is there anywhere that I may be able to get info on the fuel capacity and the engine?

4500# empty....trailer weight of 1200#, add 1200# for fuel, oil, gear, stuff, etc. and the 3500# axles are not enough

you cant tell displacement from the outside of the motor. if its a V8, you most likely have an SBC or a BBC. you can build a 255cid up to a 427cid small block and a 330 to 613 cid big block. externally, all small blocks look alike and all big blocks (mark IV and newer) look alike.

my 1986 sundancer 250 with tri-axle trailer is about 8000lbs loaded. i have the shipping papers from the trailer when it was custom ordered and it says it weighed 1500lbs.mine has a 75 gallon fuel tank so typically i am at about 6000-6500 wet. i think sea ray says mine is about 4600 dry.

not sure how well that transfers over to your boat but its what i have

Any serial numbers? Some have some info on the flame arrestor and near the starter there should be a plate with a serial number. Or even a pic of the motor and outdrive can help ID what you have.

Would a 77 have foam. Related question, is that a caulk line arounf the out drive?

When bottom painting with a metal containing product you have to leave a one inch space around the outdrive. I'm not positive, but I believe it will have foam.

I did not know that. Thanks.

The foam waterlogged on a 25' could make a pretty significant diff in weight, but a dual axle should have been able to handle it so I would vote just age and / or neglect if actually is original.

Two things you can do:
1. physically inspect the trailer axles and suspension. Is it heavily corroded? I'm not seeing a lot of clearance between the tires and fender, how much room is there between the axles and frame?
2. go to a CAT scale and get the boat and trailer weighed. It's not expensive and there are several guides on how to get all the weight measurements you need - tow vehicle, tongue, boat/trailer.

If your axles are 3500 pound (likely), your boat/trailer can weigh as much as 7700 pounds and still be considered "within spec" (I personally would not be comfortable running that close to the limits).
If your empty boat/trailer weighs more than that, you probably have water soaked wood and foam, which translates to serious problems.

I figure I have 7500-8000 lbs with my '97 250 Sundancer. But the absolute best way to know is to scale it, which I've never done with mine. That will get you the towed weight and also what you have sitting on the axles when hooked to the tow vehicle. The EZ Loader tandem trailer that is under it has 3500 lb. torsion axles. In the 13 years I've owned it, I've lost the same wheel bearing 3 times. After fixing it myself the 3rd time versus having an incompetent shop do it (like I did the first 2 times) I haven't had a problem since. I doubt your boat is heavier than my SeaRay so I don't think your trailer axles are undersized.
