I pulled my outdrive off the other day to replace my bellows. I laid it on its side because I didn't have a stand to put it on. When I picked it up I realized that there was a small amount of oil leaking. Since I have put it back on no oil has been leaking. Was it leaking because I laid it on its side or is it a bigger issue. Like I said I haven't seen any more oil leaking since I put it back on. Hoping it is not a huge issue and it was only because I had it on its side. TIA.

You should post this in the proper I/O forum. Is it a Mercruiser or something else?

Not sure why any manufacturer would put a hole in gear case so oil could "weep" and water could enter. Sounds to me like oil was leaking from a seal, probably the driveshaft seal.

Laying it on its side should not cause it to leak.
Check the oil level before you use it again.
Laying it down may just have allowed the last of the oil to drain out.
