I have a 94 120 and disassembled the waterpump to repair it. I have the waterpump repair kit and it has a square sided o ring in it. I see my old oo-ring but for the life of me can not remember the exacy location of this o-ring. I have looked at parts diagrams and it looks as though it goes on the driveshaft and on top of the top waterpump housing.

Am I correct in this? I am not sure for the life of me how i missed its location while disassembling it.

thanks

Yes, correct.
It goes on the drive shaft at top of the impeller housing.

Always helps to take pics as you work.
That o-ring might not be needed??? In the parts diagram for the 120 it doesn't show it's there.
Mercury style pumps need it, Force doesn't.
Was it there before?
Post a pic of the top of the pump.
Won't hurt anything if it's there.

?????----Shown as item #41 on the 1990 to 1994 model ----gear housing ---diagram.
Looks like that is not the full diagram. Does not show anything above the waterpump like the diagram you and I have looked at

View attachment 400642i usually have no problem with how things came apart and went together. But, wouldn't have done me any good. Upon close inspection the previous person to work on it was a dumb #@& ! Wear on the upper waterpump housing indicates that the o-ring had been there previously. Likewise the upper housing was cracked and they used RTV or some kind of form a gasket to "fix" it rather than replace it. You can clearly see the crack! As important and relatively inexpensive as these kits are I really wonder why one would choose to just replace the impeller in this case.

I do really question why they even bother. Clearly nothing presses it into anything and with thes slits below it doesn't seal a thing! Inside doesn't work either as it is to small

It's not technically a seal think more of a shield that keeps debris away from the bearing in the top housing.

I would but what bearing in the top housing? New top housing has no bearing, old housing doesn't have one, parts diagram doesn't show one. #11 is the cylinder that the impeller inserts into.
