Yeah the thermostat is on the top of the powerhead on your 70 and only 3 bolts to remove. The pressure relief is what I called bypass. Thanks for the kind words about my SN! Ive been lurking around your starcraft thread, looking good.

Looks good, telltale is going strong. I have to thank all of you for holding my hand here, it indeed is not a hard job (if it doesn't explode in a week:))

I do have a few questions still.

When running with muffs off a garden hose, as far as I can remember this spot pictured with the red arrow has always been dribbling water pretty heavily, and it sill looks that way now, should water be flowing out of this?

Also I ran the motor for like 5 minutes and the water coming out of the teltale is still cold, it used to get hot I believe, it spit water well before the change im not sure what the difference is, unless I just didn't run it long enough

Normal. I had to ask this same question when I went from a 35hp to my 60hp. It's part of the design and helps keep the exhaust housing cool.

That's great, long live my neglected 70hp!:joyous:

So the first kit I got came with a matching housing and gasket that fits in the grove.

The second kit with the correct impeller, I could not find with a housing. Good thing I had both kits because my old housing actually did have a small crack in it!

In the end I used the housing and gasket that fits in the grove from the 1st kit, and the impeller from the second kit.

For future repairs, does anyone have any comment on this paper gasket sent with the second kit? It is used place of the large o-ring you would flex into the matching grove. I only question it because I'm thinking this rebuild motor has a mix of parts, and perhaps that paper gasket is not supposed to be used on this specific housing with a grove in it...

Good work and a job well done always makes one feel good. My 55 HP also pours water out from the same spot, perfectly normal as said. The impeller housing question, if using a paper gasket on a housing that has the o ring groove it would lessen the surface area and could cause a leak which would diminish the pumps ability to keep the proper water flow if/when it blew out. Although if filled with that non-hardening gasket sealer you talked about using, it should last at least until the next impeller replacement.

The Rude 70 I just did the pump repair kit on and thermostat replacement took about 15 min on the muffs to heat up. Put your hand on the powerhead, it will be just hot enough where you can't keep your hand on it. The pee stream still won't feel all that warm to the touch.
