Water temp magneto ground.

I have a 1963 Merc 650 that has a temp sensor on the water jacket that grounds the mag (at least I assume it will if I ever get it running). I also have a 1966 Merc 500 that has the location for a sensor but no sensor attached. Did the 50 originally have one? I kind of like the idea of a shutoff if water temp gets high. Are they available anywhere? Any comments appreciated.

Mercury never equipped or offered that as a option, someone figured that out on there own. Sounds like a good idea as a fail safe for inexperienced operators.
