Water squirting out of drive

Hi guys... 2000 mercruiser 5.0 alpha one gen two... pulled the boat out today and fired it up , ran and shifted great... as it was running i checked out the drive and noticed a stream of water coming from a hole just above the shift foot on the lower unit... is this normal or is something wrong? For some reason I can't upload any pictures .. Thanks for any help.
