Water separator on a 2007 135 Optimax

I have a boat with a 2007 135 Optimax. This engine has an integrated fuel filter/walter separator (25 micron). This fuel filter/ water separator is standard from the manufacturer. My question is Could I place an additional water separator in the fuel line outside the engine? How it works with the fuel flow to the engine? Could be an inappropiated restriction?

I've read several times in either manuals or posts from guys who sound like they know their stuff, and the answer is always --NO.

I believe it is recommended to NOT add any additional filters,etc. because it adds an additional flow restriction the system was not designed for.
