I have a 1996 40 hp force and i would like to know if it has a waterpump or a impeller ,and if you cant tell me can you tell me how to tell.

It has both.
The impeller is a part inside the water pump.

You should replace the impeller every few years.

Replace the water pump housing only when it shows wear or corrosion.
