I have a 84 4winns with the alpha outdrive off for a transom seal kit, my question is there any advantage to doing the water pump with the outdrive off? I would rather do it back on the boat if its the same. thanks

Re: water pump replacement

You got to split it one way or the other. Could put the upper on after it is split will be a little lighter.

Got to align it don't forget.

yes imho... it's much, much, much easier to put the lower and upper together on the bench...

i did it several times with the upper still on the boat.. man, i grieved over putting the lower back on every time. and it always took two people to do it... last year i tried it on the bench. it took me three trys by myself to do it on the bench... this year it took me one try ea. as i put the wrong bolt in the lower for the trim anode so had to do the deed twice.. two times in a row, by myself, first try...
