OK - Simple job to replace the water pump impeller on my 96 Force 120. Done it too many times on my old merc Stern Drive. Always the problem of lining up the splines on the shafts. Thought I had it and gave it a shove and began to tighten down the nuts when I hear a click. Well it seems that the Shifting rod was not lined up correctly and I popped the casting the size of a quarter where the shifting rod enters the upper unit housing and is supposed to connect to the lower unit. Question - Will this matter? If I finaly get it lined up and in place - will it shift, or will it constantly pop off. any ideas? I'm sick over this stupid mistake. has anyone experienced this too?

------------------
trophyman

As long as it was the upper housing, and not part of the lower unit casing, you should be ok. Also, it should shift ok,provided it can't move sideways. Try "JB-Weld" or "Marinetex" to repair the damage.
Both products are miracle workers!

Here is someting that is better than anything that I have seen for fixing anything. It is called QUICK STEEL. You can get it at wall mart. I did anyways.
I keep it in my boat, and behind the seat of my truck. This is some of the things it will do. I have patched aluminum boats under water, repaired a head on a tractor after a guy tryed to weld it, it has been working for three years. Repaired a gas tank. Also I repaired an oil pan that was rusted on a truck. It is a putty that you just mix in your fingers, than stick it on.
Try it, it should do the trick.

Markcv
