Basically it is as simple as unbolting and dropping the gearcase unit then unbolting and sliding the water pump up off the driveshaft. You'll need to disconnect the shift rod first. Watch out for the impeller key.

A manual will tell you all the finer details and warn you of any pitfalls there may be with this engine. It will also tell you the correct torque for all the bolts when reassembling together with any requirements for gasket sealants and lubricants.

Manual. You must have a manual. The process is difficult to describe in just words. The manual has photos and instructions. You can get one here at iboats.com. Just click the link at the top of the Johnson/Evinrude troubles section for manuals and find the service manual for your outboard.

Or, you can take it to the shop and they'll do it for you.
