Water Pump Problems!!!!

We replaced water pump, put new exhaust gaskets in. When you start the motor water will come out of tell tale for about 5 secs then it quits. But when you give it gas you get a great stream coming out, but there is a small hole on the bottom of the powerhead on the drivers side that water is shooting out of also. Thanks so very much for any info.

If im not mistaking this is called a covered relief valve. I looked it up on Mercury parts express. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I had a guy tell me today that the impeller may be in backwards is why it only pumps when it is giving gas, was curious if anybody had ever heard of this.

Mmmmm strange.Maybe a blockage somewhere in cooling system.Like to see this extra pee hole...any pics?

that pressure relief valve (poppet valve) shouldnt have water shooting out of it, it deverts the water internally to the upper block at higher speeds. I have a 200 blackmax with new tstats, pump and impeller and it just sputters out the telltale at idle and has a decent stream at speed, im trying to find a poppet valve for mine cause i think it is stuck open and needs replacing

Flipsider, Repair the poppit valve on the drivers side of the motor. The impeller cannot be put in backwards.

Most (if not all) of those V6 motors will not have a telltale stream until the thermostats open. The 'stats may not happen on the flusher device. See if you have water exiting the prop and grates on the midsection. If so, the pump is working.

Help---Replaced the Water pump impeller and the whole pump assemply on a 79 6 cyl in line 6. Put the rubber flusher devise on and cranked her up. NO water out of the pee hole. Does this motor have a thermostat? I dont remember it having to warm up. Air blows through the pee hole and the impeller was not in pieces. Worried I may have gotten the imperrer in wrong or something.
Also sitting running with the flush unit --should it change gears when shifted?
