when I looked up my mod# and found the exploded vies parts list it has Merc. p/n listed?????----Where do you see that parts are the same for a 1980 Chrysler and a 1980 Mercury ??-----Some online seller or a proper parts website ?
I have been looking for a possible cross-over from another mod. all the way to Dometic Marine. They are the ones who manufacture and distribute all the Sierra products. No luck so far but I did put a sleeve on the harmonic balancer of my Pontiac big block and remember it came in wide variety of sizes from the manufacturer sooo.when I looked up my mod# and found the exploded vies parts list it has Merc. p/n listed

I hope for the best because the impeller came today and the main seal below the water pump will be here tomorrow along with the orig. service manual. I have viewed pics of the water pump housing and the bearing cover on the Merc. and Chrysler an the are the same.Brunswick Marine----Took on the FORCE motor line.-----Previously known as US Marine and Chrysler before that.-----Parts have been given a Mercury part # but parts are certainly not interchangeable between a 1980 115 HP Mercury and 1980 model 115 HP Chrysler.
maybe you can help me with the following problem
I removed the lower unit of this to repair the water pump and attempted to turn over the engine, with the spark plugs out, while it was removed to lube the cylinder walls because it had been sitting for years. I did turn it by hand in both directions a few inches before I used the starter. When I hit the starter, the engine rotated about 1/4 turn and locked up in both directions. I have not been able to move the crank at all. Can you tell me what I did wrong?
1980-81 Chrysler- MOD. 1158HOD - SER. 1528 - 115HP
.
Thanks again for your input,, I will post progress
I do not remember it making any sound. What does a block/ crank/piston /seizure sound like? The unit was turning free, as I stated. My question for a knowledgeable Tec is--Does turning the engine over with the lower unit and drive shaft removed allow for something internally to loosen and cause the engine to lock up???Sounds like the block /crank/pistons are siezed??
Thank you,, I will take that as fact and try to figure why this unit that was running, although many years ago, has developed mechanical distress. The fuel lines were disconnected and the sealed motor cover has always been installed. There are no signes of corossion anywhere and I do not think there are more than 100 hrs on it. I guess the first thing is to pull the head and take a look. I will post what I find. I appreciate your input, stay cool this weekend.No----You can turn the powerhead all day long with lower unit removed !!
I would not be the first-time mice have rained on my parade, but I see no evidence or way for them to get in. I'll pull the head Monday.Could be mouse nest in there.
I wish you were right and it was mice. (see pix) what a mess-I have had this for years and always thought it simply had a bad water pump because it sounded fine when I first got it and started it. I do not know for sure weather the incorrect spark plugs the previous owner put in it caused this mess but it looks like it. I only ran it for a minute or two in a 55gal drub for test so I know I did not do it. Cylinder wall is real bad on the one but others look good. I will have some decisions to make. Your input is appreciated.???----Well---They can crawl right up the exhaust.---Find an open exhaust port and crawl into a wee cave !!
