Water pump issues

I'm working on a 1993 manier 75 hp

Boats been sitting for a long time, I get it started, water pump not working, removed lower unit, flushed the motor from the bottom with a hose, a little dirt washed our, than ran clear. Replaced complete water pump housing, impeller gaskets.
The kit came with a lot of extras,
I only replaced what I took off.
I used a parts list diagram from Crowley web page, it shows the same parts, seals o rings ect. I'm not getting water running from a hose muff. 15 20 seconds. I hate to run it longer than that.

My johnson motor has an o-ring under the impeller, this one doesn't show to need one. Thanks for the help

One more thing, on the old water pump, I put a hose on the pump to flush it backwards, water was leaking from the drive shaft. I'm thinking, if the impeller is pressed in tight, how would water get past the impeller? This test was low pressure water

When you rebuild waterpump you need to replace impeller, wearplate and two gaskets, 1 on each side of wearplate, at a minimum. Make sure these gaskets match wearplate and waterpump base cutouts. If the pump cover stainless steel cup is scratched, replace that also. If the pump base is melted, replace that. Pump base needs the correct size Oring and proper base gasket. Both should be in your kit. heavy rubber slinger goes on driveshaft, on top of pump cover.

Water easily leaks past impeller. This allows outboard to self drain, which is real important in winter.

Put a flusher on the motor and turn water on full. Water will leak past flusher to motor seal. Now start motor and watch for water to be sucked in. The flusher should not leak much water when motor is first started. After 30 seconds, water should exit somewhere. Water will exit thru prop and thru grates above antiventilation plate. I do not know if you will get a telltale if thermostat is closed, which when motor is run on the flusher, thermostat may not open.
