I put a new water pump in my 1988 power of tower 115 I’m having trouble with getting it to slide back into flywheel any tips on how to go about it I got it to slide in twice this
Morning but when I started motor it wouldn’t go into reverse it would spin fast in the neutral position so I took it back out and now it’s being a pain note it has the drive shaft and a water tube side by side

Very common issue.----My guess , you took lower unit off in neutral.----If yes I would say it jumped into forward when you were not looking.----Start over and make sure lower unit and control are both in forward or both in neutral when assembing.

I have found that tilting the motor all the way up makes it a little easier to install gearcase. A little easier to lift/support/ slide, and a little easier to see that all is aligned properly as you install.
