in order to get to the water pump impeller on a 98' Johnson 90 HP i assume i have to drop the lower unit. i have disconnected the flange bolts on the lower unit. what else needs to be disconnected and where is this done to drop the lower unit to replace water pump impeller?

Hey, Joe. You've disconnected what you need to disconnect. Now apply gentle persuasion to work the locating pin, and maybe the driveshaft, loose.
Good luck.
JB

I have no first hand knowlage on this engine, but I think there is a shifter rod on the control side someplace, that must be unbolted too.

------------------
Time to change my tagline

G'day... You also need to disconnect the gear linkage shifter that sits in the engine pan at the top. Being a new motor with lots of extra bits, it may be a tight squeeze to get to this..........good luck.

thanks for the info. your advice has been very helpfull. i saw the linkage connection for the shift rod and it is a tight fit but i think i can get it loose;getting it back on might be another story.
