It used to be a runner before I got it. It has lower hours because it belonged to my grandpa. When I got it 3 years ago I had to put a new impeller in it. It ran pretty decent and would get the boat up to about 50. It started bogging down and would be hard to get restarted. Did a de-carb on it and changed the plugs. Ran great after that and was getting up about 55. May of last year it started to run like crap again. So I took it to the Evinrude guy in town. He had it for 9 months before he got back to me with an estimate. He said the VRO was weak, the power pack was going bad and was why it would cut out after the motor would get warm, that I needed the carbs rebuilt and my lower unit was seeping so it needed new gaskets. Considering the boat is a 1989 and everything was original, I believed him. I just wasn’t going to pay the price that he wanted to fix it. Quoted me nearly $5000. I found a new VRO pump and installed it. Was going to order the seals, carb kits and a power pack to do the rest of the work. After I installed the VRO I hooked the muffs up and cracked it off. She started up and purred for about 30 seconds then sounded like crap and had water pouring out from everywhere and was blowing a heavy grayish blue smoke/steam. Which leads me to believe the head gasket let go and the smoke was steam. I immediately shut it off. Water continued to come from all over until I shut the hose off.
