Water leak(?)

Hello all.
So I just did my first water pump on my Alpha 1 Gen 2. I’ve done other pumps but this was the first time on an Alpha. After reassembled I hooked up the muffs to run and it started to rain. So I just turned on the hose WITHOUT the engine running to check muff seal to continue tomorrow.
I noticed water coming out between the upper and lower housings. I’m pretty sure this is normal but wanted to check with the experts so any direction would be appreciated!
2000 Wellcraft 200SS 5.0 carb Alpha 1 Gen 2.

Is normal, but like I say in other threads just keep your boat under a tarp

I know, right? Hole in the water that you pour money into.
But thanks dubs, I was pretty sure was normal but as said, this is my first Alpha.
