Hello all, my 470 is loosing water from the closed system and then over heats, it's draining from the out drive and not in the boat. My boat has always been in fresh water, Ive replaced the exhaust bellows, impeller and replaced the solid plate and gaskets between the exhaust elbow and manifold. I've checked and cleaned my heat exchanger and it works fine. After this work the boat ran awesome, on another trip the boat overheated, i checked the coolant level which was low, i added coolant and it ran fine for the rest of that day. On my last outing i had the same problem. Whats the next step?

Howdy,

Welcome aboard!

Well, without any A/F in the bilge or oil, the obvious culprit would be the riser gasket or heat exchanger since the "other side" of them is the raw water circuit or exhaust which wouldn't leave any visible evidence.

If you haven't checked your riser gasket in long time (or it has never been checked) I would start there.

Then get the heat exchanger pressure checked.

The 470 people will be along in a minute with other "stuff" to check!

Cheers,

Rick
