Hey guys,

I have a 1994 Bay liner Capri 1750 with a 3.0 Mercuriser i/o. I have owned it for 5-6 years now and It has been a great little boat. This year I noticed it started taking water on. I removed the engine cover and put the boat into the water and noticed the water is coming in at the bottom of where the engine mounts to and sandwiches the hull between the inboard and outboard... I'm sure my terms may be incorrect but its a decent little stream of water running in but nothing that keeps us off the water... Just have to bilge it every once in a while.

My question is what seals this and what is involved in fixing it. I'm a ASE and BMW Master certified tech but I have little/no experience with boat repair. If I were to end up letting a boat shop do the repair what could I expect to pay??

Thank you in advance!!

Ayuh,... My 1st guess is the drive bellows are ripped...

My 2nd guess would be a Rotten transom...

You would need to remove the complete drive and gimble housing and replace the seal between the transom and the housing. You could use some 3M 4200 or 5200 to temporarily stop the leak. Run a bead around the housing and the transom. Not recommended as a permanent fix but it will get you through the season. Not sure on the cost of a boat shop repair but could be high on the labor end.

It's likely a bellows leak. Drive must be removed. Most shops will charge between $300-500 depending on local shop rates. The parts usually run around $60 for just the drive bellows.

HMMM, So if the bellows are leaking the water would come out in the same area.... Seems more likely than the seal leaking at the mounting to the hull... There are no signs of rot or damage around the inner or outer areas around the i/o.

Did some you tube searching and it doesn't seem TOO hard to do.
