water jacket gaskets on a 87' 200 Merc

I picked up new gaskets for the water jackets on the heads and can't find anything in the manual about using sealer on the gaskets. Do the gaskets go on nude or do you use a gasket compond and what type if they do.<br /><br />Thanks

Generally speaking, gaskets go on dry when they're new on good surfaces. Sealer should be used if you need to reuse a gasket that comes off intact, or if the metal surfaces are damaged. You'll probably have to just about chisel the old ones off, so plan on using a sealer.
