I'm replacing looking to replace the water intake hose. Can anyone offer and instructions on how to replace the water in take hose on a Volvo Penta SX?

Do I need to put the hose inside the motor cage or is everything on the outside? There is no hose clamp where the hose hit the transom and I'm worried this may be more involved than just replacing the hose form the outside. Any diagrams or a you tube would be great.

Diagrams can be found in the sterndrive manual which can be found at boatinfo.no Please let us know what problem you are having. I assume your overheating and looking for a location that the intake hose is sucking in air?

We are not overheating, I'm replacing the bellows and gimble bearing and figure I may want to replace the intake hose as well. The boat is a 2005 so I thought this might be good preventive maintenance. However, I can see how that intake hose is connecting at the transom. Some people say it goes through and if so that may be over my head.

That hose really isn't a "preventative maintenance" item. If you aren't overheating and have no obvious water intake problems, don't worry about it.

Thanks. I thought since I had the whole drive off I might as well. But I agree, it is not broke so let it be? How hard is it to replace?

I recently replaced mine on an '05 FourWinns Horizon 210. I wish I didn't bother. I was convinced by the guy at the parts desk "its a cheap part..while you have it appart..."
It's not hard to replace, just hard to get at. There is a funky flared compression fitting on the inside of the transom. You've got to reach all the way behind the motor and remove two screws from the inside. Comes off easy. Going back together is the hard part. It helps to have some help push in from the out side when you set in the new hose. That's where you need to be a contortionist. If it looks to be in good shape let it be. Like John2037 says, be prepared to change the plastic nipple on the drive side. Also change out the o-ring on the plastic nipple and the "d" shaped o-ring on the water passage.
But again, if it looks good leave it alone.

Thanks. That is what I wanted to know, if it was an outside fix only and it appears it is not. Thank you
